The ginger beer plant has been around for a while, since olden days of
the British isles.
These are simple to follow instructions that are close to maintaining a ginger 'bug' or water kefir grains.
Needed Items...
- A quart size jar or larger, made of food grade glass w/ cover. A jars with a ferment airlock vent lid works great!
- 6 to 8 Tbsp of white or light brown sugar or a mix of each.
- Fresh ginger root, about 4 inches. Dried ginger root will work, too, but not like fresh ginger will.
Directions...
- Place grains in the jar with 4 cups quality water and the sugar
- Blend ginger root with 1/2 cup water, then strain out the root. If using dried root just add the root to the mixture.
- Stir and cover with a loose lid or tight thread cloth.
- Allow to ferment for 3 to 5 days at a temperature between 70 to 80 Deg F
- After 3 to 5 days, strain out the grains. Reserve the liquid and store the collected liquid bottled under refrigeration
- Start the process over with the ginger beer grains. As the grains multiply, you can make larger amount at a time
Cheers !

After making enough ready-to-drink ginger beer, it may be bottled and stored under refrigeration. The flip top bootles work great for this...
